Cambria Construction in Sunnyvale, CA | San Mateo Construction

We provide independent Cambria quartz fabrication and installation across Sunnyvale, and the thing that separates our work here is simple: we know what those 1950s ranch slabs do to a countertop install. If you’re planning a Cambria kitchen in the 94086 or 94087 ZIP, the prep work under the slab matters as much as the slab itself. We’re San Mateo Construction, led by Noel Carrington, and we’ve spent years templating, cutting, and fitting Cambria into Sunnyvale’s older homes and new infill builds alike. Why Sunnyvale Residents Choose Us for Cambria Service

We handle Cambria as a fabrication and installation specialist, not a sales rep with a sample book. That distinction shows up in the details. Noel Carrington grew up in Baywood, a few blocks from Coyote Point, pouring concrete footings with his father on weekends, and studied construction technology at Skyline College before spending three decades on residential and light commercial jobs across San Mateo County. What that means for your Sunnyvale kitchen: we template, cut, and fit Cambria slabs with the same attention we’d give a foundation pour. We’re independent, which means we recommend what actually works for your home, not what a manufacturer program tells us to push. Our Cambria sales & service work covers the full Peninsula, and we know Sunnyvale’s housing stock firsthand. Older ranchers, newer townhomes near downtown, the infill lots off El Camino. Each one changes how a slab gets templated. We account for that.

Common Cambria Construction Problems We Solve in Sunnyvale

Here’s what we see most often when we’re called in on existing Cambria counters or asked to install new ones in Sunnyvale homes, as well as for Cambria in Santa Clara:

  • Seam opening at the sink cutout. Sunnyvale ranchers were built in the 1950s and 60s, and a lot of those original cabinets are out of level by a half inch or more. When a new quartz top goes on without addressing that, the undermount sink clamp takes stress it was never meant to carry. We shim and level the cabinet run first, then cut the sink opening.
  • Heat shock cracking around cooktop edges. Cambria is tough, but it isn’t a trivet. Hot cast iron set directly on the surface during summer cooking, especially along the thin rail between the cooktop and the front edge, will crack it. We see this in busy Sunnyvale kitchens where the cooktop gets used hard from June through September.
  • Staining and dulling on lighter designs like Torquay or Whitehall. Sunnyvale’s water is hard, and that mineral film makes people scrub. Acidic cleaners plus aggressive scrubbing dull the surface and open the pores. We walk every client through the right cleaner for their specific Cambria design.
  • Edge profile delamination at the dishwasher or fridge overhang. In narrow galley kitchens in 94086 and 94087, we sometimes find slabs that were fabricated with overhangs too wide for the cabinet support. No corbels, no subtop, just slab hanging in the air. That glue line eventually shows, and the edge starts to separate.
  • Out-of-square walls ruining an otherwise clean template. Older Sunnyvale ranchers settle, and walls drift. If the fabricator templates to the wall instead of to a leveled cabinet line, the slab fits poorly and reveals gaps at the backsplash. We laser-level first, template second.

Cambria Service in Sunnyvale: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Project

Here’s the thing most countertop pages won’t tell you. In Sunnyvale’s 94087 and 94086 ZIP codes, many of those original 1950s ranch kitchens sit on pier-and-post foundations over former cherry and apricot orchard land. That soil settled unevenly over the decades, and the redwood posts underneath don’t all settle at the same rate. What does that mean for a Cambria countertop? It means that before any slab can be templated flat, the cabinet run has to be laser-leveled and custom shimmed. Sometimes we’re lifting one end of the run by three quarters of an inch or more. Skip that step, and you’ll have a beautiful Cambria top with a seam that opens in six months and a sink cutout that starts chipping. In the city’s newer townhomes, the cabinets are generally level out of the box. The ranch homes are a different job entirely. That’s why we don’t template a Sunnyvale ranch kitchen without checking the cabinet line first. It isn’t optional here; it’s the difference between a slab that stays flat and one that fails.

Cambria Models & Products We Service in Sunnyvale

We work with the full Cambria design line, and we see a lot of Torquay and Ella in Sunnyvale’s remodeled ranches, Whitehall in the newer townhomes, and Brittanicca when homeowners want more veining and movement. For every install, we use Cambria-manufactured slabs and their recommended color-matched adhesives and sealants. We don’t swap in generic aftermarket adhesives to save a buck because color-matched cosmetic seams on a quartz top aren’t the place to cut corners. For repair work on existing Cambria counters, we evaluate whether the damage is cosmetic, meaning repairable with epoxy and polishing, or structural, meaning the slab itself has to be replaced. We’ll give you an honest call either way, and we won’t default to replacement just because it’s the bigger invoice. When it comes to Sunnyvale service area coverage, we keep the most common Cambria design samples and color-matched adhesives in our local inventory so a repair doesn’t stall waiting on a shipment.
