Ameristar Construction in Redlands, CA | San Mateo Construction
We provide independent Ameristar roofing installation and repair across Redlands, from the historic districts west of downtown to the newer tracts east of the 10. What makes our Ameristar work different here comes down to this: we know how these shingles and edge profiles actually hold up under Redlands’ 100°F-plus summers and Santa Ana wind, not just how they read on a spec sheet. If your Ameristar roof is curling, leaking, or missing edge flashing, call (855) 901-7266 and we’ll take a look.
Why Redlands Residents Choose Us for Ameristar Service
We’ve spent years working with Ameristar’s product line in Inland Empire heat, including Ameristar repair in Loma Linda, long enough to know what fails first and why. We’re not an authorized Ameristar dealer, and we won’t pretend otherwise. What we are is a licensed general contractor that has pulled apart enough Ameristar Rampart and HP series roofs in Redlands to tell you honestly whether a repair will hold for five years or whether you’re throwing money at a roof that’s already half cooked.
Noel Carrington, who leads our team at San Mateo Construction, grew up helping his father pour concrete footings in San Mateo and has spent the better part of three decades in residential and light commercial construction. He’s the same guy who’ll walk your roof with you and point at the exact shingle tab that’s about to lift. We bring that same straightforward read to every Ameristar project, including Colton Ameristar service, in the 92373, 92374, and 92375 ZIP codes. Tell us what you actually need, and we’ll figure out the right way to build it.

Common Ameristar Construction Problems We Solve in Redlands
- Curling and seal-strip failure on south and west-facing slopes. Redlands summers routinely push past 100°F, and that heat hits those exposures hardest. We see Rampart series shingle tabs curl and lose their seal strip years earlier than the same roof on a north slope. After a Santa Ana event, wind gets under the unsealed tabs and starts lifting them.
- Undersized attic ventilation cooking shingles from below. Older citrus-belt homes in Redlands, especially the 1890s to 1920s stock, often have ridge and soffit venting that was never sized for the heat load. Without matched intake and exhaust, Ameristar shingles bake from underneath. We find scorched, brittle matting on the underside of the decking when we pull these roofs.
- Fastener corrosion at old flashing and redwood details. On Redlands’ older homes, dormers, porch roofs, and chimney chases still carry the original flashing or redwood siding. When those weren’t kept painted and sealed, the fasteners fail first, not the Ameristar panels themselves. We replace the fasteners and the flashing, not just the visible shingle course.
- Wind damage to fascia and drip edge on north and east eave lines. Santa Ana winds push hardest against those exposures. We regularly find Ameristar edge profiles that were under-nailed and never re-caulked, so the metal starts chattering and pulling. Water follows the gap behind the gutter.
- Metal roof edge and drip edge separation from the fascia. Ameristar’s galvanized and ribbed metal panels expand and contract significantly in Redlands’ temperature swings. If the edge profiles weren’t installed with the right allowance for that movement, the fasteners wallow out and the edge separates. The panels are fine. The installation wasn’t.
Ameristar Service in Redlands: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Roof
Redlands is an epicenter of historic preservation, with a dense inventory of turn-of-the-century Victorian, Craftsman, and Spanish Colonial Revival homes concentrated in the Smiley Park, Northside, and downtown historic districts. That changes what Ameristar work means here. Replacing a roof on a 1910s Craftsman in Smiley Park triggers design review over profile, color, and whether the edge reads as clay tile or modern metal. A mid-century ranch a mile east has no such review. On the older homes, hand-troweled stucco and original redwood fascia butt directly against the roof plane, which means the Ameristar edge profile you pick has to look correct from the street, not just shed water. We’ve done enough of these to know that the stock color the supplier has on hand is rarely the right answer. The right answer is the color that reads correctly against the house from the sidewalk, and that’s the one we install.
On a 1910s Craftsman in Smiley Park, our crew pulled Ameristar’s original shingle course off a leaking south porch roof to find the fasteners rusted and the redwood deck boards cupped. The owner’s whole concern was matching the house’s existing clay-tile edge and salvaging the original redwood fascia. We re-sheathed the deck, re-flashed at the porch and chimney tie-in with Ameristar edge profiles, and used a closer shingle color that read correctly from the street rather than the stock color the supplier had sent. The result was a watertight roof that didn’t look like a modern patched-on square on a 1910s house. In Smiley Park, that is the whole job.
Ameristar Models & Products We Service in Redlands
We work on the full Ameristar line you’ll actually find on Redlands roofs: the Rampart and HP series fiberglass asphalt shingles, the galvanized and ribbed metal roofing panels, and the accessory profiles, specifically ridge vent, soffit vent, metal roof edge, and drip edge. For repairs, we source Ameristar OEM shingles, panels, and edge profiles when the color and profile are still manufactured. When they aren’t, we use quality aftermarket edge and flashing that’s often more durable than the original. We carry a working stock of common Ameristar profiles and matched flashing in our Redlands service trucks, which shortens turnaround on small repairs significantly. You won’t wait a week for us to chase a part from a distributor.

FAQs – Ameristar Construction in Redlands
Yes, if the home sits in one of Redlands’ designated historic districts, which include Smiley Park, Northside, and much of downtown. Replacement roofing there typically requires design review, and the city cares about profile, color, and how the edge detail reads from the street. We prepare submittals that show exactly what we’re installing and how it matches the existing character. Call (855) 901-7266 before you pull a permit and we’ll help you stage the paperwork correctly.
In Redlands, it’s usually both. The direct sun heats those south and west slopes past what the seal strip can hold, and if the attic ventilation underneath is undersized, the shingles cook from both sides. We’ll check the attic intake and exhaust before we touch a single shingle, because re-roofing over bad ventilation just bakes the next roof too.
We can. That’s a regular part of Ameristar work in Redlands’ older districts, where the original clay-tile edge and redwood fascia are part of the house’s historic character. We salvage what’s sound, patch with matching material where we can, and choose shingle colors and edge profiles that read correctly from the street. Not from a catalog photo. From the sidewalk in front of your house.
Yes. Redlands’ eastern edge reaches into Wildland-Urban Interface areas where fire-resistant exterior materials matter, and Ameristar’s galvanized and ribbed metal panels make sense there. We install metal roofs with the updated eave, valley, and penetration details that WUI standards require, and we pull the permits. For an exact quote on a metal roof in east Redlands, call (855) 901-7266.
No. We’re an independent construction and remodeling contractor, not authorized, sponsored, or endorsed by Ameristar. What we have is years of hands-on experience with their product line in Inland Empire heat, and the honesty to tell you when a repair is a waste of your money. That independence means we recommend what’s right for your Redlands home, not what a brand program tells us to push.
