Ameristar Construction in Brookdale, CA | San Mateo Construction
We provide independent Ameristar service across Brookdale, and the one thing that separates our work here from a flat-lot job is the hillside reality: most Ameristar cabinet and vanity installations in Brookdale happen on out-of-level pier-and-beam floors inside older redwood cabins, on lots that sit in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. We’re not an authorized Ameristar dealer, but we’ve installed and repaired enough Ameristar kitchen and bath product in 95007 to know exactly how it behaves up here. Why Brookdale Residents Choose Us for Ameristar Service
San Mateo Construction brings the breadth of a whole-home general contractor to a single brand’s product line. We work with over 50 name-brand suppliers across roofing, siding, windows, plumbing, cabinetry, countertops, and hardscaping, and Ameristar sits inside that portfolio as our go-to for stock and semi-custom kitchen and bath cabinets plus quartz and granite vanity tops. Truth is, we recommend them often because their shaker and raised-panel lines hold their own in a mid-range budget without forcing you into particleboard boxes that die on their first wet Brookdale winter.
Noel Carrington grew up in Baywood, a few blocks from Coyote Point, and spent weekends helping his father pour concrete footings, which is more or less how he got hooked on the trade. He studied construction technology at Skyline College in San Bruno and has spent the better part of three decades running residential work across San Mateo County. When an Ameristar cabinet run needs re-shimming on a cabin floor that’s drifted an inch out of level, he’s the one who knows where to slip the shims. Common Ameristar Construction Problems We Solve in Brookdale
Brookdale’s specific conditions create predictable failure patterns in Ameristar products. Here’s what we see most often:
- Swollen particleboard boxes at the toe-kick and sink base. Shaded, tree-canopied hillside lots keep ambient moisture high, and Ameristar’s stock cabinet boxes are particleboard. The lower boxes absorb that moisture and swell before the doors ever show wear. We see this on almost every mid-century cabin off Highway 9.
- Delaminated cabinet backs and loosened undermount vanity tops after winter atmospheric rivers. Brookdale’s wet winters drive moisture through roof and deck leaks, which wicks straight into the cabinet backs. The finish delaminates, and the countertop bond fails. It’s not a cosmetic issue at that point, it’s structural.
- Racked and out-of-square Ameristar cabinet runs on pier-and-beam floors. Older Brookdale cabins sit on piers and post-and-beam foundations. Over decades, the floors drift. A stock Ameristar run installed square on a drifting floor binds drawers and drags doors. We re-shim, re-level, and re-square.
- Cracked Ameristar quartz tops at the sink and cooktop cutouts. When a quartz top spans unsupported across a retrofit island on older framing, the substrate flexes and the top cracks at the weakest point: the cutouts. We’ve seen it often enough on Brookdale remodels to plan for it before the top goes in.
- Runoff-wicked vanity damage on the uphill side of a cabin. Winter runoff following a slope into the foundation finds its way to the sink base. The vanity box absorbs it, swells, and the whole cabinet starts pulling apart. See our Brookdale service area page for the full scope of where we work.
Ameristar Service in Brookdale: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
The detail that matters here, and it’s specific to Brookdale above almost every neighboring mountain town, is the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone designation and what it does to a simple kitchen or bath remodel. When your Ameristar cabinets and vanities go in against an exterior wall, that wall often has to be opened for WUI ignition-resistant assembly review before we can close it back up. The building department wants to see the wall assembly, not just the finish. That means a vanity swap in Brookdale can trigger a wildfire-compliance inspection that a flat valley-floor job simply never faces. On the shaded redwood lots along Highway 9 above Boulder Creek, this is normal. On a creekside cabin in the 95007 ZIP, we’ve had entire cabinet scopes held up for defensible-space clearance before the building inspector would sign off. We plan for it now: the cabinet layout gets checked against the exterior wall condition, the WUI assembly, and the access path before we ever place the first base cabinet. Tell me what you actually need, and we’ll figure out the right way to build it.
Ameristar Models & Products We Service in Brookdale
We work with Ameristar by Elkay quartz and granite countertops, the Ameristar Bath vanity and cabinet collections in stock and semi-custom configurations, Ameristar shower and tub-surround kits, and the shaker and raised-panel stock cabinet lines for kitchen and bath. When a hinge fails or a drawer slide wears out, we source OEM Ameristar hardware where lead time allows, and we use quality aftermarket hinges and slides when a part won’t arrive in time for a Brookdale homeowner who needs the drawer working this month. On swollen particleboard boxes, we’re direct: replacement beats patching. You’ll spend less over three years replacing a box fully than chasing delamination with band-aid repairs.

FAQs – Ameristar Construction in Brookdale
Will replacing Ameristar cabinets in my Brookdale cabin trigger wildfire review?
Yes, potentially, and it depends on whether the work touches an exterior wall. Because Brookdale sits in a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, any remodel that opens an exterior wall for cabinet or vanity installation can require a WUI ignition-resistant assembly check and defensible-space review before the wall gets closed back up. It’s standard here, not a penalty. We handle the paperwork and the sequencing so the cabinet scope doesn’t stall the whole job. Call (855) 901-7266 if you want us to check your specific cabin and lot.
Why do my Ameristar cabinets swell so fast up here?
The ambient moisture on shaded, tree-canopied hillside lots in Brookdale is the main culprit. Particleboard cabinet boxes absorb that moisture at the toe-kick and sink base, and winter atmospheric rivers make it worse by wicking water through roof and deck leaks directly into the cabinet backs. Once the particleboard has swollen, the finish has delaminated and the structural integrity is gone.
Can my Ameristar vanity be installed on a pier-and-beam floor in Brookdale?
Yes, but it requires re-shimming and leveling first. Older Brookdale cabins on piers and post-and-beam foundations drift out of level over decades. A vanity set square on a drifted floor will rack, bind drawers, and eventually pull the countertop bond apart. We shim, level, and anchor before the top goes on. Call (855) 901-7266 for an exact quote on your cabin’s floor condition.
My Ameristar quartz top cracked at the sink – can it be repaired or does it need replacing?
A crack at the sink cutout on an Ameristar quartz top usually means the substrate underneath flexed, and no surface patch will hold long-term. The repair is replacing the top and properly supporting the cutout so it doesn’t flex again. On the redwood-shaded cabin off Highway 9 where we found a swollen and delaminated vanity wicking winter runoff, we replaced the boxes with sealed units, re-shimmed the run on the out-of-level pier floor, and set a new Ameristar quartz top with a properly supported sink cutout. It hasn’t moved since.
My Brookdale lot is steep and heavily treed – can a small Ameristar remodel still be delivered and staged?
Yes, but we stage it differently. Narrow mountain roads and tight access for equipment mean we stage materials in smaller lifts and plan deliveries around the turn radius on the approach. We have never had a Brookdale lot too steep to work, but we have had to shuttle materials by hand for the last stretch on some of the tighter parcels. Call (855) 901-7266 and we’ll assess your access before quoting.
